Treatment Options

There is no cure today for glaucoma. At best, disease progression can be managed over time. Standard treatment relies on topical medications that must be taken multiple times daily for the duration of the patient’s life. These medications can be successful in controlling intraocular pressure but compliance, safety and cost issues impact the success of the drugs over time.

If medications alone become inadequate to manage the disease, your eye doctor may attempt a more invasive procedure such as a using a laser or performing an incisional surgery. More recently, advances in new, less invasive surgical procedures such as the Gold Shunt have provided physicians another option to treat glaucoma patients.
